THE MAIN HOUSE Has nothing to distinguish it as a Hotel from the street. It is cosy and wonderfully decorated, crisp white sheets, old floor boards
(which do creek a bit) Chandeliers and fire places. It’s a romantic home from home.

Our large room and very large bath were quiet and elegant with a comfortable bed, couch, chairs, and antiques replete with polished tea set, tea strainer and tray. Our whole stay was restful, quiet and ideal.

We felt we were very lucky to find out about this wonderful little place, through friends. It’s very small but the private suite was big, really stylish and very comfortable. It’s central, easy to get places and in a great area. They arranged for their driver to collect us at the airport – great service and from then on we were really well looked after by kind and helpful staff. It was just such a pleasure to be there. We’ve been looking for this sort of place for years. Small, personal but not instrusive, everything you could want including a great gym and great food at Daylesford. We nearly didn’t write this as we want to book again it’s not often you come across real value for money with a touch of class!
HG, New Zealand

We had such a magical stay that we have been there several times since – and we can now claim to have slept in every one of the different bedrooms! The house itself is in a perfect location – easy to get to if you want to tour around London but absolutely no need to go further than the surrounding neighbourhood for fabulous meals/pubs/delis/markets/shops etc if you just feel like staying “at home”. Each of the rooms has been decorated with such style and have a marvellous feeling of luxury in a simple, minimalist way : a unique combination and not always easy to get right.

Tucked away on a tree lined street a block away from the bustle of Portobello Road is this true charmer. No signage will be found on the outside of this Victoria house so you must know that behind these doors lies a remarkable hotel, the likes of which you will be hard pressed to find again.
The staff are very helpful and, like clockwork, will bring you morning tea each day of your stay. If you need directions or suggestions, they are there and willingly provide you with local knowledge – – the best deli around, where to pick up coffee, how to get around the area without getting caught in a non-moving crowd, etc. Bus service is so convenient that we didn’t have any need to use the tube, although there are three tube stations comfortably nearby The Main House. Get on your computer immediately and book this hotel. It’s in demand and rightfully so. Good luck in securing one of their coveted rooms for your stay in London! UK, England

We won’t consider anywhere else next time we visit. When we ventured out, one of the staff would usually greet us at the foot of the stairs to provide any advice we would like. They genuinely wished us to have a good day. We loved the neighborhood that was safe, fun and interesting. The house itself is in a quiet spot. Around the corner on Westbourne Grove are boutiques, organic food stores, excellent restaurants and pleasant walking. One of my favourites was Books for Cooks, a cook book store with test kitchen inside. We rubbed shoulders with young professionals, families, the hip and wealthy and working folks, all blending seamlessly. The walk to Notting Hill Gate was through quiet and beautiful row houses. The Underground lines (particularly the Central line) were convenient and pleasant.

From the airy rooms, to the comfortable beds and couches, to interesting artwork from around the world, it is a perfect home away from home after a long day sight-seeing in London. Nottinghill has so much to offer. Everything you need is merely steps away. The food is wonderful, the shops are fabulous, and Portobella market is a must see and the bus and tube are so close!
JR, Massachusetts

Our suite was huge, particularly for London, and very comfortable with lots of conveniences including: large soaker bathtub and lots of very hot water, good wireless internet, a very comfortable sofa, and electrical converters. Decorated with antique furniture and African art, it was an oasis of calm in a busy trip. We walked to many of our destinations, including Hyde Park, and transit was very close.

When we arrived, I realized that I had left a sport coat in a hotel 2 hours away. No problem, the other hotel was contacted and 24 hours later my jacket was hanging-freshly pressed-in our room. The room’s are lovely, quirky, full of charm with the tasteful furniture and beautiful wide plank floors. The bathroom is huge!

Guest privacy is obviously a very high priority in coming and going but that’s not to say that [excellent] service isn’t immediately present when needed.

Prior to booking this place I have reviewed all available hotels in central London in our price range on tripadvisor and booking.com and I am absolutely sure The Main House is offering the best experience and value for your money.
MG, Russia

You really feel like you are living in the neighbourhood rather than stuck in a hotel room. The area itself is of course great to explore, and is also a good base for exploring other aspects of London. Would definitely stay again.
JC, Australia

This is not the spot for those searching for the cossetted hotel experience with uniform beige décor and round-the-clock room service; it’s the place for those who want to feel part of the neigbourhood they’re staying in, and Notting Hill is one of the most fascinating and vibrant neighbourhoods in London.
SN, Canada

They hired a driver to take us to and from the airport, for a cheaper rate than taking the Heathrow Express (which would have included walking a ways with our luggage). The building is old and has a few things like squeaky floorboards that simply can’t be helped when you’re staying in a building of such age – but if you’re all about the vintage charm of a place, as I am, then you’ll adore your stay at The Main House and dread the day you have to leave.
HJ, Chicago

This property is not going to suit absolutely everyone. If you are after 5 star amenities this is not the place for you. If you are after a place to stay with real character and charm, that lets you feel like you are actually living like a local, then you will love it – as we did.
AF, Australia

I highly recommend it. It might be pricey for some people but it is worth every penny. I have been in London in worse and much more expensive hotels. I will come back for certain.
SL, Spain

A superb and unique home away from home, complete with charm and elegance within the hustle and bustle of one of the greatest cities in the world.
If your voyages take you in search of discovery and authenticity in the people, places and experiences you seek: The Main House is for you.
DL, Calgary

Each “room” is actually an entire floor (bathroom included) so you have a lot of privacy. Each of the 3 floors is spacious and wonderfully furnished – we’ve now stayed at least once on each floor. We’ve had to stay at other places in London but Main House is always our first choice.
RL, Pennsylvania

The primary reason we loved our stay at the Main House so much is because you’re accorded just the right amount of privacy and yet, you’re also provided good advice.
SS, Hong Kong

Spacious light filled rooms with a beautiful combination of modern and antique decor make the Main House a special place to stay. The locality is in an elegant part of Notting Hill but very handy (5 mins) to Notting Hill tube and high street. I loved being away from noise and the crowds of the city centre.
MR, Australia

The rooms were spacious (rare to find in London hotels), the beds huge and comfortable. Big mirrors made the rooms bright and airy. We only wished that the weather had been better so we could have enjoyed a drink at the small balcony. Last but not least: The location was perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Main House and we will certainly come back.
BB, Norway

On arrival we were offered the use of a a free local mobile phone (no charge!) which was great and saved us a lot. Also the taxi that was arranged to collect us from Heathrow was incredibly cheap, in fact not much more than the price of a single ticket on the Heathrow Express train.
NM, Sri Lanka

If I travel to London, The Main House would be the first place to check, and hopefully I’ll be as lucky with the reservation as I was in November.
The service is wonderful. Very friendly and helpful: from arranging transportation between The Main House and the airport, to sharing tips on cafes in Notting Hill, to drawing up a non-touristy, “local’s” itinerary for my last day in London.
The room: very, very spacey and bright (practically one has the whole floor to oneself). The decor: beautiful, simple and tasteful.
The location: very convenient for exploring Notting Hill as it is just 5 minutes walk to Portobello Road, with its antiques market, cafes, and restaurants. Also, it is a short walk to Notting Hill Gate station, so was very convenient for exploring the rest of London.

I have traveled the world extensively for the past 13 years and stayed in every manner of accommodation, from the world’s finest hotels, to remote treehouses and bungalows. It is rare to come across a place filled with this much charm, attention to detail, comfort, and warmth. And the location! It’s precisely where I’ve wanted to stay in the past, but could never work out. I was lucky enough to be tipped of to the place by a friend.
HD, New York

From the genuine warm welcome on our arrival after 23 hours of travelling and throughout our stay Caroline was a pleasure to deal with and made us feel special and completely at home.
It was as though we had found a fabulous, stylish friend who gave us the keys to her stunning, spacious apartment for our stay!
The relaxed glamour created here, straight out of an interior design magazine, was a joy to luxuriate in. The location in a quiet street yet so close to everything could not be bettered. We highly recommend The Main House.
LL, Australia

The Main House is centrally located in an area with all conveniences and public transportation is right at the front door (bus stop is around the corner), or short walk to subway(tube) to get to all major attractions. I highly recommend not passing up on staying here, look no further you won’t be disappointed.
DT, New York

A truly spectacular little gem in the heart of London. We do alot of business in London and we always try and stay at the Main House because it feels more like a welcoming home than a hotel. BU, Cornwall
The Main House offered a quiet and spacious place to stay as my wife and I visited London for the first time. We stayed a total of 8 nights and the place truly felt like we found our home away from home. The room was huge and the bed was comfortable. Location was amazing – close enough to the Underground to thoroughly explore London and one street over from Portobello Road. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Next time we are headed to London again, I will be checking with The Main House first for room availability.

It’s worth it to take advantage of the driver from the airport, it doesn’t cost much more than the express train and you don’t have to haul your luggage through the tube. You can pay a lot for very little in London, but this is one place which is a great value. I’d like to keep it a secret, but if you can get a reservation, it’s well worth it. SK, California
The neighborhood is awesome, as it is residential and in a very upscale neighborhood, so again, not a typical hotel by any means (you feel like a local, not a tourist). You even have your own key to the front door – just like you live in the neighborhood (no lobby or staff to deal with). You can make arrangements to have a driver pick you up at the airport and this went flawlessly for us. It was wonderful to see my name on the little sign as I entered the airport from my plane. Our driver was very friendly and whisked us away from the chaos that is Heathrow to our quiet little place in Notting Hill.

Email answers were very fast, and they even agreed to let us receive a letter with tickets for a concert in London while we still did travel through England’s South. As we arrived, everything was perfect – a great place in a great area! The room – as well as the bed and even more so the bathroom – was huge and beautifully decorated. We were overwhelmed. A carafe of water had been arranged on a silver tablet, and every morning our room was made. There were maps and menus of restaurants nearby which could be used as well as a fridge. Even after our stay we received a notice of hospitality which made us feel to come back right away.

Coming to London as I frequently do on business, I was referred this place by a colleague in the film business. It was a true delight. Not only do you feel completely at home, but there is a very exciting atmosphere of worldliness, taste and excellent, but never sycophantic service. You feel privileged staying in this hidden treasure of a house, because it offers a level of intimacy and charisma that other London Hotels miss (and I have stayed at the best).
On the border of zone 1, everything is accessible by taxi, subway and bus, and Notting HIll has great cafes, parks and galleries.
NK, USA

I read about the Main House in a Travel and Leisure Magazine and went on the Website. Thus began the process of communication by email with my myriad of questions, which were answered clearly, promptly and with a warmth often not experienced while hotel “shopping.”
The manager arranged for us to be met at the airport and driven by taxi to the hotel. What a treat not to have to find one’s own way even though I am familiar with the city . We were met with a gracious and personal welcome. Upon being shown to our suite on the second floor with its rugs from Africa, touches of English antiques, beautiful black couch and marvelous twin beds with true cotton sheets plus very large private bath, we were invited to once again ask questions regarding the area. Slept like babies and the following morning were awakened with tea and toast on a lovely silver tray and my grandson knew he had surely left the USA. From that point on every personal need was met – even when I left a credit card at a boating rental near Hampton Court, it was arranged for it to be brought to the hotel without any hassle to me.
I was delighted that we were able to keep our suite while we toured much of England and Scotland and always experienced a Welcome Home upon arrival. I could not recommend The Main House more highly. I am planning on returning this summer this time with an eighteen year old grandson. I know we both will be delighted with not only the Main House but the surrounding area of shops, markets and marvelous little unique places to dine.
